FUNERAL TRIBUTE TO LATE C.J. DENNIS
Colleagues As Pall Bearers

Men and women who had been friends of Mr C.J. Dennis before "The Sentimental Bloke" made the friend of all Australia, others who had worked with him on newspapers, and some who knew him only through his work, were present at his funeral today.

A requiem mass for Mr Dennis was said at 7.30 a.m. at the Church of St. Thomas Aquinas, Bromby Street, South Yarra. Several of his close friends were in the congregation. The Rev. P. Egan was the celebrant.

Graveside Service

Father Egan also conducted the service at the same church this afternoon, before the funeral, which was attended by many of Dennis' friends, left for the Box Hill Cemetery. There, the service at the graveside was conduscted by the Rev. Father R. Hyland.

Among those at the funeral were Mr Theodore Fink (chairman of The Herald and Weekly Times), Professor T. H. Laby, Sir Henry Gullett, Mr Frank Tate (former Director of Education), Mr Hugh Adam, Mr Hal Gye, who illustrated Mr Dennis's best-known books; Mr Julius Grant, one of the producers of the "Sentimental Bloke" as a play; Mr S. Grant, Mr Monty Grover, Mr A. S. Whyte (The Sun-News Pictorial), Mr G. Hynes (Australian Literature Society), Mr C. R. Bradish, Mr A. W. Wynne and Mr F. R. Mogg.

Also Messrs Frank Talbot, R. Holman, sen. and jun., W. Coleman, S.Herron (Australian Natives' Association), R. R. Money (The Listener In), Edgar Holt, Eric Hogarth, Robert Creaser, J. Brown, R. Middleton.

Pall-bearers were Sir Henry Gullett, Mr Hugh Adam (Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Herald), Mr W. Dunstan (Manager of The Herald and Weekly Times Ltd), Mr R. Simmonds (Editor of The Herald), Mr P. B. Jenkin, Mr A. W. Wynne, Mr Frank Talbot and Mr J. S. Macdonald (Director of the National Gallery).

Among those who sent wreaths were: Sir Keith and Lady Murdoch, Mr and Mrs R. Simmonds, Directors of The Herald and Weekly Times Ltd, executive staffs of The Herald, directors and staff of Australian Associated Press, Australian Natives' Association, Dr. J. W. E. Graham, Mr Julius Grant, Sister Quinlan, and the nursing staff of Coonara Private Hospital, Mr and Mrs A. W. Wynne, Mr Harold Burston, the Australian Literature Society, the Australian Journalists' Association (Victoria district), colleagues of the reporting staff of The Herald, and Mr Frank Talbot.
