Note re Sales of THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE

Here is a May Moore impression of the Sentimental Bloke, now traveling with his own Doreen towards the top of Australia. It's a lean, earnest countenance, with a pair of honest grey eyes, that C. J. Dennis turns to a world which throws him encores every time. He confesses that he hoped to sell 500 copies of the Bloke, and wanted to publish it by subscription - the first resort of the man who under-estimates his stuff. But it didn't happen that way. Fifty thousand copies have been passed round in two years, and the prospects are that it wil spread like thistledown when the world is less busy with munitions.
