Letter by William De Morgan to CJD 1916.04.23
127 Chruch Street My Dear Sir, Your publishers have kindly sent me a copy of The Sentimental Bloke, and I owe you a hearty thanks for writing it. I have seldom had more reason to be grateful to the chance that has placed my name amongst those of authors, and so won for me a stray presentation of your book. I did not know much of the London East End slang had either come from or travelled to the Antipodes - I suppose a strong re-action on the English end is due to the proximity of the Docks. I shall leave the book lying about as I did "Uncle Remus," and pick up some new phrase from it every day. Thank you again very much!
Yours very truly, J.K. Moir Collection, MS 13037 Box 3723/2, State Library of Victoria.
