Letter by John Shaw Neilson to Mary Gilmore 1916.12.31 .... I am glad that [Randolph] Beford is writing for the Worker. He has the gift of fierce, robust English, Imagination, and the never failing sense of humour. Do you ever think of putting any verse of the Indian Sir Robat on Women's Page. How wonderfully tender he is. There is great tenderness too in our own [C.J.] Dennis but the larrikin talk jars on me, but Dennis is really a poet in spite of himself... I like the Spring Song, The White Dresses, the sense of unworldliness its all true. |
