September 7 - Clarence Michael James Stanislaus Dennis (CJD) is born in Auburn, South Australia
September 10 - CJD is baptised in St. Aloysius' College, Sevenhill, South Australia

October 7 - birth of CJD's brother Francis Albert (Bert)

March 16 - birth of CJD's brother Claude Leo

August 16 - Katherine Dennis, the mother of CJD, dies

1898
February 12 - first CJD work appears in The Critic

1902
April 5 - first CJD work published in Bulletin

1905
August - CJD forms The Gadfly Syndicate with a number of literary friends

February 14 - first issue of The Gadfly

November - CJD leaves Adelaide for Melbourne

? - death of CJD's brother Bert as a result of an accident
November 12 - "Austra-laise" awarded a special prize in The Bulletin National Song Competition, and published in magazine

September 5 - CJD returns to Melbourne

January 28 - CJD appointed to the Navy Office as a clerk
March 23 - CJD writes to publisher George Robertson (of Angus & Robertson, Sydney) re publishing "The Sentimental Bloke"
October 9 - The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke is published for the first time

February 21 - CJD appointed as secretary to Senator E.J. Russell, attached to the Federal Attorney-General's Department
February 24 - falls out of moving tram in Collins Street and is badly injured
October 9 - The Moods of Ginger Mick is published for the first time

1917
July - CJD marries Olive Herron in Melbourne

1918
September - publication of BackBlock Ballads and Later Verses

1922
May 12 - CJD is announced in Herald as commencing a daily column

1938
June 22 - CJD dies in hospital in Melbourne at the age of 61
June 23 - CJD is buried in Box Hill cemetary, Melbourne
